This episode title could apply to the huge Friday night breaking news from the New York Times with a headline that even as I read it here again is the most extraordinary news headline ever written: F.B.I. Opened Inquiry Into Whether Trump Was Secretly Working on Behalf of Russia and could it also apply to the Tories marching in lockstep over the Brexit cliff despite a continuing stream of news reports, each worse than the next, saying the UK is not prepared for what lies ahead in March and that were The People given a true referendum, Leave would lose by double digits because of the complete cock-up over two years by Westminster Tories.
And it’s worse in Washington where the government shutdown moved into record territory over the weekend for the longest ever at now 24 days this Monday. They have been wrestling with this funding mess for more than a month now. White House aides have been making it up as they go along. They’ve said the president would be fine with spending bills without wall money, then he threatened to veto them, putting the government in shutdown. “The president has said he wants this fight. But this week he said he didn’t, and it’s the Democrats’ fault. The White House has been on every side of whether they’d be interested in a DACA-for-wall trade. There’s one guy who matters here, and it’s the president, and even he is shifting.” NYT: “Inside the White House, officials privately acknowledge that the president dove into this fight with no clear end game.”
