Georgia, Indiana and several other deep Red States have embarked on an unprecedented voter suppression effort, removing Democrats from the voting rolls well… because they can. Ever since 2013’s Shelby vs. Holder case overturning the requirement certain states and local governments had to obtain federal pre-clearance before implementing any changes to their voting laws? It has been open season on the rights of minorities in deep south red states. We’ll discuss. In Turkey the Saudi Washington Post journalist (and US green card holder meaning he has full rights and protection under US law) Jamal Khashoggi was filmed entering the Saudi Embassy. Lured there under false pretenses, he never exited and audio tapes clearly lead one to believe he was gruesomely tortured, murdered and dismembered by a 15 member hit squad despatched by Crown Prince and serial bully, Muhammed bin Salman or MbS. The fallout has been global. MbS’ blatant assassination of a member of the international press and general recklessness caused a global furore as multiple companies and countries cancelled participation in Saudi Arabia’s ‘Davos in the Desert’ economic conference next week. The US is now under pressure to order Treasury Secretary Mnuchin to stay home as it would send the wrong message to the Saudis to attend as if nothing happened. And here in the UK, Brexit is still on the front pages as sacked former Brexit minister David Davies in a Sunday Times Op Ed called openly for a Tory mutiny against Theresa May as everyone wondered if she made a hush-hush wink-wink deal on borders for a full year with Northern Ireland’s DUP to keep them on her side in Brexit. That would seem to be scandalous. It is.
