The man who wrote this letter to me is a fine, honest and extraordinary person who does not normally speak. He’d only let me reprint this anonymously, not indicating his address or identity. When people ask this of me I will comply.
It’s a GOOD honest letter, from a really GOOD American Citizen in his early 60’s – a non-political person (uncut or edited):
How is it possible for senior elected officials at this high level of authority, power and responsibility (i.e. the U.S. Senate) to operate and perform their duties with no apparent “moral compass” and with no apparent respect for the guiding republican principles of government by the people, of the people and for the people?
The last time I checked we (i.e. the United States of America) were still a representative democracy. Not being entirely naive, I grasp that elected officials must serve more than one or two primary masters (i.e. the citizenry and one’s principled self) – yes, lobbyists and assorted monied interests want their interests served, too.
Even so, intentionally keeping us (i.e. the citizens) in the dark and (amazingly) keeping fellow U.S. Senators in the dark during the processes of crafting laws so profoundly affecting the lives of the vast majority of the people of our nation is not excusable. Nor is it advisable.
This cavalier disregard for the very Constitution that legitimizes these Senators’ power over the very citizens they are obligated to faithfully represent and this cavalier disregard for the very basic dreams of those who fought so hard and in so many cases sacrificed their very lives to secure our national existence and the precious freedoms its existence delivers is reprehensible.
Democracy and the AMERICAN way can only stand if Honest – Good People will stand against bullys, For God’s Sake!
