London fire brigade better equipped for terrorism since 7/7, says chief

Ron Dobson, London’s fire commissioner and gold commander during the 7 July 2005 attacks, has praised the fire service for its response and highlighted the improvements in equipment that have been made since. According to The Guardian, Dobson said: “I am proud to be associated with the service and the improvements that have been made in terms of equipment and training since the 7 July attacks.” He added that the service had “come a long way” and that there was “a lot to be proud of”.

On the 10th anniversary of the 7/7 bombings in London, Ron Dobson, the London Fire Commissioner and Brigade’s Gold Commander on the day of the attacks, has insisted that the capital is now better prepared to deal with another act of terrorism.

Dobson said that the brigade had implemented changes to improve their response to terrorist attacks, following the recommendations of Lady Justice Hallett at the 2011 inquest into the deaths of the 7/7 victims. These improvements include better radio communication, equipment and training with other agencies.

The 7/7 attacks killed 52 people when four suicide bombers detonated explosives on tube trains and a bus during the morning rush hour. Dobson said that the anniversary of the attacks gave the brigade an opportunity to reflect on the changes they had made since then.

“I feel proud to say that the brigade is more equipped and prepared than ever to deal with a major incident in the capital,” said Dobson. “The improvements we have made are a testament to all of our staff who worked on that day and cements our reputation as the best fire and rescue service in the world.”
