‘Go F*ck Yourselves’: R.E.M. Blasts Trump, Cruz For Using Its Song to Bash Iran Deal | Alternet

“Go fuck yourselves,” lead singer Michael Stipe reportedly told the Daily Beast In an email. “The lot of you—you sad, attention-grabbing, power-hungry little men.”

The Iran deal, which has been lobbied hard by the White House, is an international agreement that seeks to create an inspections regime on Iran’s civilian (though not as of yet military) nuclear program in exchange for a relief of sanctions. As the deal moves closer to being approved by Congress, opponents are desperately arguing (without hyperbole) that it spells the “end of the world.”

“While we do not authorize or condone the use of our music at this political event,” Stipe said in a Facebook message, “and do ask that these candidates cease and desist from doing so, let us remember that there are things of greater importance at stake here.”

GOP bromance buddies Donald Trump and Ted Cruz took the stage Wednesday at an anti-Iran deal rally in Washington D.C. to the song “It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine).” The song’s creator, the band R.E.M., is evidently quite pissed about it.
