Bill Kristol Would Rather Support Dick Cheney As Third Party Candidate Than Trump | Crooks and Liars

Bill Kristol is so angry at Donald Trump that he vowed he couldn’t support him and even broke the RNC’s sacrosanct loyalty pledge (of supporting whoever the GOP candidate is) by stating he’d rather support Dick Cheney as a third party candidate.

This is interesting for a number of reasons, but as we’ve seen, most of Trump’s support is coming from the most xenophobic members of the GOP because they identify immigration as the cause of all our woes and are in a kismet with Trump on this issue. And Kristol’s choice for a candidate is Dick Cheney, who he’s simpatico with on foreign policy issues which are at the top of his wish list.

Either way Donald Trump is having a huge effect on the Republican party that is causing cracks at their San Andreas fault line of conservatism. The old guard is being swallowed up by the more rambunctious Tea Party coalition.

At this point, the combined support for Big Cray-cray and Lil’ Cray-cray makes up more than half of all support for the entire GOP field, including “Nobody” and “Undecided”.

Bill Kristol, the editor of the Weekly Standard, said he would likely look beyond both of the major parties if Trump, the clear frontrunner in the GOP’s crowded presidential field, emerged with the party’s nomination. “I doubt I’d support Donald. I doubt I’d support the Democrat,” Kristol told CNNMoney in an email. “I think I’d support getting someone good on the ballot as a third party candidate.” After Trump made harsh comments in July about Senator John McCain’s service in the Vietnam War, Kristol said that the billionaire developer was “dead” to him. “I’m finished with Donald Trump,” Kristol said at the time. Kristol, on the other hand, is counting on a viable third-party candidacy to emerge in the event that Trump clinches the nomination. So who would Kristol like to see on the ballot? Former Vice President Dick Cheney and freshman Senator Tom Cotton, Kristol said, “would be an excellent independent ticket!”
