Twenty children, the majority aged six, and six adults, including teachers, administrators and school staff, tragically lost their lives in a senseless act of violence. Adam Lanza, the perpetrator of the massacre, stalked through the school armed with a high-powered weapon, shooting his victims multiple times at close range with a gun resembling a .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle. The victims, mostly terrified children, were left with devastating physical and emotional wounds. Our thoughts go out to the families of those affected by this tragedy.

Adam Lanza’s mother was a known enthusiast of firearms, having reportedly boasted to her friends about her collection and taking her son, who suffered from severe emotional and psychological issues, to gun ranges to practice shooting.

This ultimately cost her her life, as Lanza shot her in the head before going on his rampage at Sandy Hook. During a recent interview with Megyn Kelly, 2016 Presidential candidate Ted Cruz was asked about his brief tenure in the Senate and what he had accomplished. His response was disturbing, as he claimed that his most notable accomplishment was stopping President Obama’s attempts to “undermine the Second Amendment” after the tragedy at Sandy Hook.

This statement is not only misleading, as Lanza had not yet become a violent criminal at the time, but it is also deeply insensitive to the 26 people, 20 of them small children, who were killed in the shooting. It is clear that Ted Cruz is a sociopath, and it is deeply concerning that he is running for President.
