Privacy Policy

Introduction

UK Progressive is committed to protecting the privacy of our readers. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect the information you provide when you use our website and services.

Collection of Information

We may collect information from you when you visit our website, register for an account, subscribe to our newsletter, or otherwise interact with us. This information may include your name, email address, postal address, phone number, and other contact information. We may also collect information about your use of our website, such as the pages you visit and the content you view.

When visitors leave comments on our site, the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, are collected to help with spam detection. Additionally, an anonymized string created from the visitor’s email address (known as a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to determine if the visitor is using it. The Gravatar service’s privacy policy can be found at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once the comment is approved, the visitor’s profile picture will be visible to the public in the context of the comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, please be aware that they should not have embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included, as visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from these images.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These cookies are for your convenience, so you do not have to enter your details again the next time you leave a comment. These cookies will remain for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

We may share your information with third parties in order to provide you with services or to improve our services. For example, we may share your information with advertising partners in order to provide you with targeted advertisements. We may also share your information with service providers who assist us in providing our services.

Visitor comments may additionally be checked through an automated spam detection service before being posted.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Protection of Information

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we collect from misuse, loss, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. We also use encryption to protect certain sensitive information.

Your Choices

You may choose to opt out of certain uses of your information. For example, you may opt out of receiving promotional emails from us by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in the email. You may also contact us to request access to, or to delete, your information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the revised policy on our website.
